Benguerra Lodge

Like the three other lodges that we feature in the Bazaruto Archipelago, Benguerra Lodge is a special place. Not only is it one of the original lodges in the archipelago but it also boasts a proud history of sustained eco-tourism development in the region as a whole and on Benguerra Island in particular. The lodge was designed and decorated in keeping with the unique East African-cum-Arabic history and ancient traditions of these islands. The wonderful sense of rustic luxury you get on arrival leaves you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated on departure.

There are only 11 chalets at Benguerra Lodge and each one has been slipped into the surrounding indigenous Acacia and Natal Mahogany forests. No chalet is more than 20 meters from the beach and each one has a veranda/balcony looking out to sea.

All chalets are double rooms - 7 double-bedded rooms and 4 twin bed rooms - each with an en-suite bathroom and shower.

The Villa at Benguerra Lodge was opened in 2003. This exclusive private Villa is ideal for honeymoon couples and family special occasions. Set away from the main lodge, the Villa is decorated in an East African style and consists of two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, an intimate lounge and dining area with hand carved mahogany table. Outside on the wooden deck you are spoilt with a private Jacuzzi/plunge pool for all the relaxation and total privacy you could need. There is even a personal chef on hand to prepare all your meals. However, guests may have any or all their meals at the lodge if they wish to.

Meals are fresh from the sea, with delicacies such as crayfish, crab and calamari tantalisingly prepared as exotic Portuguese dishes. Lunches are relaxed affairs served in different settings and always with unsurpassed personal attention.

Besides the obvious risks associated with children and the ocean, Benguerra Lodge is an ideal place for a family holiday. While there is no Kids Club to speak of there are tons of activities to keep the little folk occupied during the day. In the evenings there are babysitters on hand to look after the children while you enjoy and relaxed evening under the stars.

The Benguerra Lodge experience is what might be described as rustic romance. Although the chalets are adequate our suggestion would be to stay in The Villa. You can expect complete privacy, excellent personalised service, wonderful food and the peace and tranquillity that comes from your very own piece of paradise.
