Fundu Lagoon

Had Robinson Crusoe been a yuppie, Fundu Lagoon is the sort of place he would have created! The main lodge is tucked away among the trees and bush just off the beach at the end of a 200m long jetty. Fundu Lagoon is situated on the remote Wambaa Peninsula on southwest coast of Pemba Island.

Dining at Fundu Lagoon can best be described as a culinary safari! The dinner venue changes each night of the week. It may be on the beach under a canopy of stars, or on the deck lit by paraffin lanterns or in the boma-like restaurant with an open fire crackling nearby.

Lunch and dinner are delicious three course meals. This is an island, so fish is often on the menu, complimented by fresh vegetables and the spices for which the Zanzibar Islands are famous. The menus are more international than traditional, which makes a welcome change from some of the other resorts in the islands. Breakfast is a reasonably healthy affair with fresh fruit and yoghurt and/or a cooked breakfast if you wish.

The Jetty Bar is located, not surprisingly, out along the amazing 200m-long jetty. Here the friendly barman will whip up just about any exotic cocktail you can think of.

Fundu Lagoon is young and sophisticated but definitely not suitable for young children.

Fundu Lagoon was designed with the young, stylish and romantically inclined in mind! There is little question that this beach lodge rates among the finest romantic destinations on the African coast, if not the Indian Ocean.
