Hakuna Majiwe

Set on a fabulous 6 kilometres white, sandy palm fringed beach, cooled by the ocean breeze, it is the perfect gateway to an exotic african paradise. The owners are very particular in using indigenous products in building the lodge with as little harm to the surrounding area as possible.

In keeping with this eco friendly approach they are currently trying to secure the area as a marine sanctuary.

Hakuna Majiwe is situated in Domocuchu, near Paje on the South East Coast of Zanzibar. It is about an hour and a quarter drive from Stone Town.

There are 16 rooms in total in semi detached units of 2 rooms each. All rooms have ceiling fans, en suite bathrooms and a lovely verandah facing out on to the beach. All rooms are sea facing, and beautifully located within about 30m of the beach.

The beautiful Zanzibari double beds blend in with the wooden floors and décor. They definitely set a new Zanzibar style.

Cuisine is a blend of Italian, local food and international. Breakfast is served from the buffet which consists of local fruits, breads, cereals and eggs. Lunches and dinners are from an a la carte menu. As with all Italians, they are very particular about their food quality. The lodge's local chef, Agi, is the specialist in the local cuisines and vegetarian meals, whilst Claudio who comes from a restaurant background prepares the Italian specialties, fish and Japanese Sushi. Dining here is excellent.

You also have the option of walking to a variety of restaurants and pubs in the area, should you wish to go out and find local alternatives.
