The hotel is based on a modern European style and it is by far the largest in Zanzibar. This would explain why guests are transported in golf carts in and around the resort! The beauty of this side of the island is that it is not as affected by the tidal fluctuations so you are able to swim in low and high tide. The restaurant area is beautifully decorated using glass windows and water features. One of the most amazing features of the resort is the large entertainment area built on a pontile out in the ocean.

La Gemma Dell’ Est is located on the North West coast of Zanzibar, near to Kendwa Rocks. An hour’s drive from Stonetown.

The cuisine is European, serving English and Continental breakfasts, and buffet for lunch and dinner. Snacks and pastries are served at the swimming pool bar throughout the day. There are plans of introducing an a la carte restaurant on the pontille.

The list of activities is endless, which makes this an ideal location for a wonderful family holiday, particularly when the kids are little older (+12 years). However, like most hotels on Zanzibar, one should not expect the type of children’s facilities that are on offer at Mauritian resorts.

Being a large resort, La Gemma Dell’ Est doesn’t lend its self to intimately romantic holidays or honeymoons. However, it is a beautiful hotel and honeymoon couples of ours who have stayed there have been very happy with their choice.
