The Zanzibar Serena Inn is idyllically situated on the waterfront of historic Stone Town, and is one of the most luxurious hotels on Zanzibar. The hotel is located in two beautifully resorted historic buildings, the old Telegraph Building and the Chinese Doctor’s House. It is a haven of peace and quite from the busy life of Stone Town. Don’t let the fact that this is a ‘city’ hotel put you off! Stone Town is one of the highlights of any trip to the island and there is no better place to base yourself to explore the town than the Serena Inn. |

Displays of traditional Swahili dance, music and cultural routines, including nightly performances of Taarab Music, a combination of African, Arabic and Indian influences that was first played in the 1820's at the Sultan's palace. Taarab is usually performed by a singer accompanied by an orchestra comprising the Kanun (similar to a zither) accordion, the nay (flute) and drums. Wildlife and cultural talks, videos and film shows occur nightly at the hotel. |

Baharia Restaurant, the main dining room, is built at the water’s edge. Through large picture windows which open onto the panoramic view of the ocean you can watch the fisher-folk and dhow captains sail their boats to and from the harbour. The menu is mix of local and international dishes of fresh seafood, local vegetables and the spices for which Zanzibar is famous. The Masahari Bar is a wonderful place for a pre-dinner drink or nightcap while swapping stories of your day in Stone Town. The Mdele Coffee Shop serves tea, coffee and a selection of tasty cakes during the day. If you want to get away for dinner, ask about the dinning options at the exclusive Serena Mangapwani Beach Resort, which is only 30 mins away. |

The Serena Inn is not particularly geared for kids and although there is the advantage of a babysitting service, the kids club that you might expect to find at such resorts is not there. Older children, who can appreciate the hustle and bustle of Stone Town will enjoy the experience. |

We always recommend two nights in Stone Town on any itinerary. Our suggestion to honeymooners is no different and the Serena Inn is our hotel of choice for a truly romantic start to a Zanzibar holiday. The mix of stunning location, elegant décor and wonderful service make this hard to beat. |
